SUMMARY:10.18 - When Reason Isn't Enough
DESCRIPTION:https://blakhat.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/10.18-When-Reason-Isnt-Enough.mp3\n  \n10.18 – When Reason Isn’t Enough \nThere is a particular kind of arrogance in believing that everything worth knowing can be explained. \nWe build our lives around what we can see\, measure\, and prove. We pride ourselves on being rational. We dismiss what others call faith because we have seen how easily belief can be used to manipulate\, frighten\, and control. \nAnd often\, we are right to reject it. \nBut what happens when the life we’ve constructed around certainty collapses? \nWhen someone we love walks away. When the future we imagined disappears. When we find ourselves alone with thoughts so dark that even getting through another night feels unbearable. \nWhat good is certainty then? \nFor centuries\, philosophers have argued about the nature of existence. Socrates questioned what men claimed to know. The Stoics taught that we must distinguish between what we can control and what we cannot. \nBut philosophy becomes something altogether different when you’re sitting alone in the darkness\, wondering whether you have the strength to continue. \nIn those moments\, a man may reach for something he spent a lifetime denying. \nNot because he’s suddenly found religion. Not because he’s abandoned his intelligence. \nBut because\, for perhaps the first time\, he’s willing to admit that he doesn’t have all the answers. \nAnd something unexpected may happen. \nHe may discover a source of strength that doesn’t fit neatly into any philosophy\, doctrine\, or explanation. \nHe doesn’t need to name it. He doesn’t need to defend it. And he certainly doesn’t need anyone else’s permission to experience it. \nBut there is a responsibility that comes with surviving our darkest moments. \nWe cannot simply celebrate having made it through. We must ask what we intend to do with the life that remains. \nWill we become more compassionate toward those who are still struggling? \nWill we be less certain of our judgments? \nWill we recognize that the person standing beside us may be fighting a battle we cannot see? \nWe do not have to understand everything that sustains us. \nBut perhaps we owe something to the world because it sustained us. \n  \n\n  \n  \n
