October 20 — The Courage to Think Clearly
A couple of days ago, Albertans went to the polls to consider a question that strikes at the heart of our country: whether to remain part of Canada or begin the process toward separation.
The results were decisive. But maybe the greater lesson lies not really as much in who won or lost, but in how we navigate the uncertainty and discomfort of  such moments.
Nearly two thousand years ago, the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrestled with a world of political conflict, uncertainty, and human division. He understood that while we can’t always control events, we have a responsibility to examine our judgments about them.
That responsibility remains ours today.
We live in an age when outrage travels faster than understanding. When the loudest voice can seem like the most convincing. When fear, resentment, and frustration can persuade us to accept an easy answer to a complicated question.
Yet one of our greatest human gifts is the ability to stop, reflect, and reconsider.
Clear thinking does not mean living without emotion. Our feelings tell us what matters to us. But they Don’t always tell us what’s true.
It takes courage to question something we’ve believed for years.
It takes humility to listen to someone whose conclusions are different from ours.
And it takes wisdom to recognize that changing our mind isn’t a weakness.
Sometimes it is evidence that we are growing.
The same principles apply far beyond politics. In our relationships, our disappointments, and the private struggles of everyday life, we are constantly asked to choose between reacting and understanding.
We are fortunate to possess the capacity for reason. But reason is not a gift that serves us automatically. Reasons gotta be aggressively exercised, especially when our emotions are firing hard.
Today, before accepting an opinion, defending an old belief, or judging another person, ask yourself one question: Am I thinking clearly, or am I simply reacting?
The worlds always gonna have its turbulent times.
We Don’t escape or hide from turbulence, no we meet it with an open mind, steady judgment, and the stamina to think for ourselves.
